Different problems
Instapaper has one of the best reading views ever shipped. Strip the page, set the type well, get out of the way. If the article is already open, Instapaper is hard to beat.
Nook does not compete there. It competes one step earlier, at the moment you open a list of 400 saved links and close it again because nothing on it looks worth the effort. A summary and a reading time on each row changes that decision.
Where Instapaper is stronger
- Offline reading, with articles cached on the device.
- Text-to-speech for listening to a queue.
- Highlights and notes inside the article text.
- Native iOS and Android apps, plus Kindle delivery.
Where Nook is stronger
- An AI summary on every link, not just a stripped page.
- Smart tags generated automatically at save time.
- Related picks drawn from links you already saved.
- Nested collections and shelf views for Unread, Favourites and Archive.
- Search across summaries and notes, so you can find a link by its argument.
Moving from Instapaper to Nook
Instapaper exports CSV. Upload it under Import and Nook will map your Instapaper folders to collections. Instapaper's built-in folders, Unread, Archive and Starred, are treated as shelf state rather than turned into collections, so you do not end up with a collection called Unread.

Common questions
- Can I import Instapaper into Nook?
- Yes. Export your Instapaper library as CSV and upload it under Import. Folders become collections, while Unread, Archive and Starred are read as shelf state instead.
- Does Nook have a reader view like Instapaper?
- No. Nook shows a detail view with the AI summary, reading time, tags and your notes, then links out to the original page. It does not reformat the article itself.
- Is Nook free?
- Nook is free while it is in beta. Every feature is unlocked with no card required. The published plans are Free at €0 and Pro at €4 per month, or €36 a year, and they start charging only after beta ends.
