The Nook browser extension for Chrome and Firefox

Nook, Save to shelf is the official Nook extension for Chrome and Firefox. Click its toolbar button to save the current tab with a title, category, tags and a collection, or right-click any page or link and choose Save to Nook. Nook then writes an AI summary, reading time and tags for the link in the background. The extension is free, and Edge, Brave, Arc and other Chromium browsers install it from the Chrome Web Store.

Install it

The extension is listed on both stores under the name Nook, Save to shelf.

  1. Create a Nook account at nookdb.com if you do not have one. Sign-up takes an email and a password.

  2. Add the extension from the Chrome Web Store in Chrome, Edge, Brave or another Chromium browser, or from Firefox Add-ons in Firefox.

  3. Pin it to the toolbar so the Nook button stays in view.

  4. Click the button, choose Connect your account and sign in with your Nook email and password. You do this once per browser.

Two ways to save

Both land on the same shelf you see in the web app, and the link shows up there straight away.

  • Toolbar popup. Saves the current tab and lets you edit the title, pick a category, add tags and file the link into a collection before it lands.
  • Right-click menu. Choose Save to Nook on any page, or on a link without opening it, for a one-click save.

What happens after you save

Nook fetches the page in the background, writes a short summary, estimates reading time and suggests tags. The next time you open your shelf, the link explains itself instead of sitting there as a bare title.

Permissions, in plain words

The extension uses the active tab to read the URL and title of the page you are saving, the context menu for Save to Nook, notifications to confirm a right-click save, and storage for your sign-in. It talks only to the Nook API and does not read or change the pages you browse. The privacy policy covers what Nook does with the links you save.

What it does not do yet

There is no Safari extension and no extension for mobile browsers. On Android, install Nook from nookdb.com as a PWA and save from any app's share sheet instead. The extension saves links, not highlights or selected text, and it does not keep pages for offline reading.

Common questions

Is the Nook extension free?
Yes. The extension is free to install from both stores, and Nook itself is free while in beta with every feature unlocked.
Does it work in Edge, Brave or Arc?
Yes. Chromium-based browsers install extensions from the Chrome Web Store, so add the Chrome version.
Is there a Safari extension?
Not yet. Safari users can add links in the Nook web app, which also installs as a PWA on iPhone and iPad.
Why do I sign in to the extension separately?
The extension keeps its own session instead of reading the website's cookies, so you connect it once with the same email and password you use for Nook.
Can I choose a collection when saving?
Yes, from the toolbar popup, which shows a collection picker once you have created a collection. A right-click save puts the link on your shelf without one.
